What do you do when the temperature is approaching -15˚F (-26˚C) and the moon is full? Grab your touring skis and explore the frozen river under the bright moonlight! I've been scoping out this location for a while now, just waiting for the right conditions to get out and do some shooting. Directly behind me are Kiliak and Yukla mountains, both peaks reaching more than 7,000 feet. Have a great weekend and get outside, even if it's a bit chilly!

Did anyone else catch that brilliant moonset this morning? With only one week until Winter Solstice, we are experiencing the shortest days of the year. Some dread this season but I truly enjoy the calmness it brings and the low angle light. This was taken around 9:45 am.
Hiked out to Rapids Camp from the Eagle River Nature Center last night to shoot the full moonrise. I was out there the evening before to take a compass reading and scout a location that would allow me to shoot 119˚ East, exactly where the moon would be rising.
