For all the challenges that 2020 brought, it was also the year of double rainbows here at the Eagle River Nature Center. I captured a number of nice images that summer and this one was in use last year by AT&T Alascom on their 2021 poster calendar. I've now added it to my website and online store, available on canvas, metal, and high-gloss photo paper

September came on with a vengeance and now it has nearly passed. When the first dustings of snow arrived above 6,000 feet, I assumed it would quickly melt. Instead, it continued to accumulate, hopefully a sign of a snowy winter ahead. Have a great weekend out there, wherever you are!

June 17, 11:30 pm, rumor has it there is some rainy weather in store for the weekend. Here's to hoping it brings much needed moisture to the valley and passes through by Monday, I've got a two-night backcountry trip planned for early next week.

Here are a couple more photos from the most intense portion of the last night's display. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the activity was moderate (Kp=3), but being so close to the Arctic Circle, it still made for an excellent show. Eagle Summit was a great location - no light pollution whatsoever!
Just got in from an all-night aurora chasing session on Eagle Summit - just over 100 miles north of Fairbanks. We had a nice show, more photos to follow, now it's time for sleep...
